RABBIT CARE

Rabbits are a unique pet. Each come with unique personalities, quirks and love to give. Treated as a family member, he will become a member of the family with as much companionship to offer as a dog or cat.

Caring for a rabbit requires a great amount of responsibility and patience. As such, full responsibility for a rabbit should not fall upon a child. Children cannot be expected to provide adequate care to a rabbit on his/her own, nor can they be expected to be observant of the rabbit's health. A child is still learning to take care of themselves and cannot be expected to care for another living creature. If a rabbit is a family pet and a child is involved, the entire family should take part it in its care. For more on this issue, please visit our Advocacy section.

That said, rabbits can be wonderful additions to many households. They can provide hours of entertainment with their endless antics and give love and devotion just like more common pets.

Rabbit care is very specific to their species and rabbit ownership should not be undertaken spontaneously and/or without research. We have compiled a short list of topics regarding basic rabbit care as a starting point for potential new rabbit owners.
